Saturday I launched out of Ecky with my buddy Matt in his john boat. Went looking for trout, but mostly found reds. I put the first three slot fish in the boat on topwaters, then it was Matt's turn. As we were going over an oyster bar in about two feet of water a hog grabbed his Skitterwalk. It cam all the way out of the water and it was definetly an impressive fish. I quickly reeled in, grabbed the net and was on standby. About 4 good headshakes later there was a huge tail kick and the drag starts screaming....??? Chase the fish for about ten minutes to see the big trout has turned into a 6' shark..... :smt010 :smt011 . He eventually breaks Matt of and we return to fishing. Decided to head into a creek I had never been in on the way home and find the reds stacked up. We put a couple more in the boat including a 26 3/4" stud. Blackened redfish for fathers day.

By Sunday I had worked through some more of the electrical issues I've been fighting with my boat and told Katie we should take the dog for a boat ride. After breakfast at Savanah's we launched from the light house. Get over some good bottom (mix of rocks and holes) in 2.5' and start seeing tarpoon everywhere; free jumping, gulping air, pushing wakes and just cruising around. About 15 minutes into watching them one bust some bait about 25' from the boat. I throw the bite-a-bait about 10' past it and start walking.....explosion. He tagged my tw leaving a hole about the size of the front deck on my boat. No run out this guy he quickly hit the surface and snapped my 12# leader. Proceeded to jump three more times trying to throw the plug. Probably a 5' 60-70 fish. Katie's first real live experience seeing one out of the water; now she wants to know why we don't target them more often.... :o . After that another boat ran up on the flat and I never saw another fish. Ran inshore and stuck a couple reds, then called it a day.

Hope ya'll had nice father's day...it was a nice weekend to be on the water.

Sounds like you've located the fish.

My guess is if you get Katie hooked up to a poon, you're in trouble. ;-)

Nothing wrong with that Showman.
If you hook Katie up to a poon you better hope nothing breaks.

Casey,

The first three fish were pets....all released on their own recognicense. Not wanting to harrass them too much, we moved after fishing that area briefly.

Below are the pics of the two that made it home:

in addition to blackended redfish, Katie and I have been living a downright southern lifestyle these days:

during a walk with the dog we noticed blackberries had come in nicely this year

so katie made us some cobbler:

My value add came in to form of a smoked boston butt

it has been a good week
