Keaton Beach 6-20-08

I met met up with Barhopr for a little Friday fishing at 6:00 at the Keaton Gas & Grill. We launched and headed down the canal with a light breeze and thoughts of the fish to come.
First stop was around some rocky bottom and bars that I found last weekend that I thought deserved a little more exploring. We moved in and around them throwing top water chuggers and soft baits. The trolling motor got a work out as BH and I worked in and out of them all morning till the tide bottomed out and we worked our way over to another group of bars with the big motor. I saw a small boil about 30-40 ft form the bow so I cast my go to suspending bait past it and started twitching, a nice 22 1/2" trout was hungry and ate it.

Shortly after that BH hooks into the second trout of the morning that was released and then came a look of WTH
. But I redeemed him when he caught a keeper redfish
that I put back. Shortly after that I snare a little smaller trout at 18 3/4". Into the cooler he goes. We decide that we just ain't setting the world on fire here so we run back to an area where BH and Birddog caught some redfish a while back so we head to the shore line. After working it over for a while and getting no love we decide this just ain't it.
We picked up and ran over to a little flat on the other side of Keaton. We fished hard all over that flat but without much to show for I tell BH that I KNOW THERE ARE FISH around this point. Sure as taxes after a few flashes and follows of the spoon I hear a yell and turn to see BH bowed up on a stout redfish. Roughly 21"-22" in memory serves me.
I get another 20" trout on the gold Mirrolure and we call it a day.
Back on the trailer around 6:00. After a shower and a nap at the camper, I was home by 9:00 enjoying a cold beer and relaxing.
Nothing spectacular but some dang nice fish were caught and I had a blast hanging out and fishing with ya Mills. Maybe next time I'll commit to the spoon. Thanks for tagging along with me, we'll have to do it again.
Tally for the day:
