Late St. Marks Saturday report

My Dad drove over from Alabama with a friend to fish St. Marks. Forecast was good so I was surprised to see the rain all over the water on the weather channel radar. I almost called them to suggest doing it another day but had high hopes this would clear. They got to my house around 10:30 and we head to St. Marks and got down there about 12:00. Skies looked threatening but also clearing so we went out.
The wind blew like the dickens all day but there were no more thunderstorms and it even cleared up pretty nicely. We caught a bunch of dink trouts, a few of which were right at 15" and went back in the drink. A few sharks, mostly small, but one about 30" that got me pretty excited on small tackle. All of this action on gulps under corks.
Then we went in-shore and fished shoreline. Between the last hour of the rising tide and first hour of the falling, we hooked up a good number of quality redfish. Boated 8 of them but had a bunch of break-offs and pulled hooks. Unfortunately, I was responsible for most of the pulled hooks and break-offs. I still had a really good time watching my Dad and his friend reel in some good fish. My Dad reeled in a 26" redfish on an outfit rigged with 6lb test. Took a good 10 mins to get the fish in the boat. It was part of a double hook-up where his friend fought a 24" fish to the boat. Gulp seemed to be the ticket but we also hooked up with spinner baits and gold spoon.
They got us a limit and then I finally caught one and released him unharmed. Had a terrific time.
