7/6/08 Just Havin Fun

The day started out right. I got Showboat out of bed about 8:30. We loaded his stuff and headed for the gulf with no particular plan, other than to explore a little, and have a good time.
We fished shallow. We fished deep. We fished everything in between. We managed 7 reds, and probably 20 or so trout. There were several highlights during the day. We both caught tournament class reds. Both were right at 26.5". Showboat had a 26.5" trout crash a topwater bait. Showboat also had a 13" trout take one of his favorite topwater baits away from him. It was humorous because the line broke right at the boat. The bait was large enough, and the fish was small enough, it had a heck of a time swimming with the bait. After several minutes of chasing the fish with the dip net the fish finally won, and disappeared with Showboat's plug.
The highlight of my day was when a 31" cobia inhaled my bait as soon as it hit the water. I know a 31" cobia is not even a keeper, but it was fun. This fish went air born, like a tarpon, several times. We both laughed while I had a good time fighting the fish.
The last highlight is throughout the day we caught 9 different species of fish. To add to the reds, trout, and cobia, we caught a few blues, 1 catfish, we had pin fish trying to eat topwater baits, 1 lady fish, 3 or 4 small grouper, in 3' of water, and 1 flounder.
I had a blast, Showman. Can't wait to do it again.
