I think there are 2 ways to have a boat (outboard motor) with little risk of that damage in our area.
1. A tunnel hull with a jackplate, you can raise the motor up away from the danger zone.
2. A tiller steer with no T&T, on a manual jackplate raised up as high as you can. Keep an aluminum prop and a Porter rock guard on there. My thinking is it will "pop-up" and not do any great damage. The aluminum prop may take a hit, but keep a spare with you.
I am gonna rig up a #2 and try it out. I've had the tunnel, and may go back to one eventually. The Flint river is rocky too, and I like to fish there also.
Mah .02 worth!
Sorry to see the damage to your motor whitebc.

The reason I still use an aluminum prop and keep a spare on the boat......
Broken $90 prop, OR new $ 300 SS prop and $500 plus lower unit repair job.
Easy choice in my book.

I am sorry bud, that sux! I hope you have it insured. I have a ss prop on my boat too and I have often wondered if I should switch to an aluminum. I really hate to see that, but it isn't anything that can't be fixed. At least you are ok.

Whoa.......looks like you were hauling tail in the wrong area. I ride slow in unfamiliar waters after I tore the foot off a Yamaha 225 and I was 1.5 miles off the coast of Texas. 15 feet of water then -.5.

I've done the same thing on a different body of water. Makes for some depressing days as you wait for it to come back fixed. I wonder if we should feel bad for the rocks that we hit?
