Life Jacket + Kill Switch =

Falling down in the boat, grabbing the throttle and pushing it to wide open, no kill switch = Image

This happened yesterday while a guy was coming back to pick up his passengers at the PSJ Marina. He slipped and fell overboard (with life jacket on) but managed to grab the throttle on the way out. The boat did 2 big loops and then crashed over the lower sea docks where people are fishing all the time. Total time between slip and crash was about 30 seconds. Be safe out there, use your PFD's and your kill switch!

OMG. Lucky he didn't get "manateed" after falling out or that he didn't hit someone on that section of shoreline.

Were they able to get it back on a trailer?

They used a cherry picker to get it off the rocks, not sure what they did after that.

Can you imagine the terror? Sitting in the water in your PFD watching that thing circle?

I don't wear mine much either. My fishing buddy Mark K nags me about it everytime we go. Looks like he is right. I need to start wearing that and my seat belt in my truck all the time. It is just ignorance not to I guess. That dude day was "on the rocks"!

I have a buddy in Destin I used to go stay a few days with years ago. His next door neighbor and his wife were just taking a nice little cruise up the river when they hit a log. Threw them both out and the boat started circling in a tight loop. The wife got run over once, but came up ok. The second time, she went to brace against the boat and broke her wrist. Had to have surgery on it. Luckily, a boater came along and rammed the boat and deflected it to shore where it stopped.

They were lucky. Both could have been chopped liver.

I can attest to boat props danger. I have a scar from 20 stitches in my foot from a prop that was not even turning..... :smt010 . We had been out skiing all day and running in to a few sand bars here and there. I could have shaved with that thing. Went to climb the ladder, felt something brush my foot, and when I put my foot on the step, it opened up a gusher....Closest I ever came to fainting that day. I had to lay on the dock for a little while....

He had a buddy that was a doctor. Called him on a sunday eve. We wrapped it up, went out to eat, and then the doc met us at the office and stitched me up. Ther was no hurry because of pain, since I had been taking pain killers all day

Dang, that was a high tide that day. I wear my preserver and kill switch when duck hunting due to the temp of the water, but I am guilty of not wearing it otherwise. Glad he wasn't hurt. Prop rash is a nasty thing.
