Nice Bass from the yak on Carr

After a long day, I had the evening to myself and wasn't sure what to do. Thought I'd take the Kayak out to Lake Carr. I put the yak in and paddled into the wind making several drifts throwing shallow running crank baits with little luck. The wind began to die so I headed to the edges of the pads to start throwing top water. I was picking up small bass but nothing spectacular.

Then I saw a large wake pushing a school of bait... I pitched my top water to the side and the fish made an immediate U turn inhaling the Lure.

Normally I would have put one this size back but the hooks were into the gills and he was bleeding badly.
I paddled over to another boat to see if they had an Ice Chest I could stash it in- they didn't but were nice enough to give me a stringer and take a photo

It was a beautiful day on the lake- I picked up a few smaller fish but nothing else photo worthy.

Came home, cleaned the fish, put a fillet under the broiler with lemon, salt and butter, and cracked open a cold Beer.
Its a good day!

PA, It's on the West side of N Meridian Rd. Go in on Cedar Hill Rd on the North side of the lake. I used to go down Gardner Rd on the South side just to look at the lake.
Whatever you do - don't shoot the deer! They used to not care for that sort of thing along that section of land!

Carr can be a lot of fun. I love to fish a SPRO frog out there.

I am not sure how you can fish anything with treble hooks on that lake. Anything other than weedless would crive me to distraction.

Nice fish

Thanks for all the comments-
The lake is low but there is room to launch a jon boat from the ramp.
It looked like folks had to push out a little before they could start running.

Grim Reeler- you are right about the coontail grass- its everywhere.
You have to search out pockets to work the topwater through and you will spend a lot of time clearing the hooks.

Both of those things make it a good place for they Kayak!
