The wife, BIL and I are going to try a little chumming this weekend if the seas are decent and wanted to try going out to a little deeper water 10'-20' and throw out a couple of chum blocks and see what comes up.
Any ideas on what I need to tkae with us? Trout tackle or broom stick and Senators? Wire leaders for the sharks I kinda hope show up or fluro leaders? Chum and cast or freeline live bait?
I know, its a bunch of questions but any help is appreciated.

This time of year ain't no telling what's liable to show up but you can bet something will! I'd expect to see a lot of sharks and probably a good cobe...If you can hook a cobia you need some tackle to wear it down in a hurry fore the sharks get it...I been there before.....

We threw out the chum bags last week with some pretty good luck. I would strongly suggest steel leaders because everything else was bit off quickly. We put a couple of cans of canned tuna fish (in oil) in our chum bag and the sharks LOVED it. We also used some store bought chum, but the tuna worked best in my opinion. Just punch a couple of holes in the top and botttom to let it flow through. We attracted several sharks and saw some cobia tailing the sharks. We had better luck fishing pinfish under a cajun thunder on a 30 inch steel leader. We caught a few on the bottom but most under the cajun thunders. We also free lined some cut bait and did very well. We went about 9-10 miles straight out of the mouth of the river to find good 18-20 feet of water. Good luck and make sure your radio works!!

Try chumming over some of the inshore reefs and rock piles.

If you venture over to Dog Ballard take a big rod. There have been some monster jewfish out there this summer. I had one at about seven feet long chase a hooked grouper to the surface. What a sight. Caught a few cobes out there a little over a month ago.
