Late Carrabelle report- Aug 10

I notice there hasn't been much offshore reporting lately, so here's one from a few days ago.

Sunday Aug 10.
Wat'sername wanted to take a couple of her coworker lady friends grouper fishing. I wasn't sure it was the thing to do (go fishing with 3 split tails), but decided I could probly handle it.
We departed the TI ramp in Carrabelle at 0745 and ran SSW 29 miles to the 80-90 feet.
The forecast was calling for 1-2/smooth and light wind, and was on the money. Sky was mostly clear..temp and humidity was tolerable.
Conditions were such that drifting was the order of the day, lightening the load on the deckhand and bait guy (me) by not having to mess with the anchor.
LY's and squid seemed the logical bait since I had to do most of the baiting. The fish like it, so the choice was good.
The bite was great and more than once, each of them had fish on at the same time, keeping me real busy.
The first hour was consumed with returning a number of red snappers and short red groupers, so I moved the boat 1/2 mile to the west to get out of them for my own sake.
One of the ladies had never fished deep water, and I had to stay close to her for fear something really big would take the rod away from her.
I think we made 4 or so drifts and the bite continued to be steady and produced keeper red groupers to our limit. No sign of any gags, and only 2 small sharks were caught as well as the usual critters you generally don't want in the boat.
At about noon or half past, it was evident the gals were getting tired, so I suggested they stay in the shade of the bimini and eat lunch. I took that opportunity to get in a half hour with a light rod and small bait to see, if I could catch a few lane snappers for the frying pan. I picked up a couple and a vermilion or two, before heading in around 1.
We were back at the ramp a little after 2pm.
I survived it, but man did I work my butt off. It might be a while before I do that again.
I had intended on taking picture, but never had time for the camera.
Here's the evidence. Mostly grouper sandwich material.

Not to change the subject, 'thought y'all might like to see how the 2 new ramps in Carrabelle are progressing.

It looks like ramps are coming along, where is the parking going to be?

Thanks FP..
As to the parking for the city ramp, I'm told the parking is to be at the old ball field on 98...a couple of blocks to walk, I reckon. I been meaning to stop by the waterfront office and ask that question. I'll report on it when I do..

Update on the parking for the new ramp.. Talked to one of the folks involved with the planning, and she said there will be some (limited) parking along the fence across from the Millender seafood house on the street perpendicular to Marine St. 'Said the city is trying to acquire a close piece of property (not sure which property-- Millenders???) to be used for additional parking. In any event, overflow traffic will be directed to the ball field with some talk of a part time shuttle service. Remember this is just a plan, so it could change several times before it is settled. :D
