Short trip

Several times last weekend my boat would not start. It would just make a clicking noise.Eventually after turning the key again and again it would start right up.I took it Monday to my mechanic and sure enough the first time we tried to crank it up it clicked.Ten times after that it turned over so i left it there to see if he could find the problem.I have heard that ignition problems are hard to find if it does not do it every time. I called him yesterday and he said it turned every time so i picked it up.4:30 this morning my wife and i head out for Econfina.Put in around 6:15 followed by my mom and dad in there boat ,and a friend and his bil,in his new boat.Hit the key and she starts right up and we are off for the early morning bite.Make the turn at tripod and see this huge rain cloud stretching from Aucilla to Rock Island.Run a short distance west and head in .We both got blow ups on top water and i want to keep fishing there but my wife says she aint dying over a fish so i turn the key and the engine fires right up again. We move closer to the river in case it gets any rougher and shortly after we stopped it did.I hit the key to run in and .........nothing.Now the wind and the rain is picking up and after several attempts still nothing.I use a screw driver and get it started and start in .Just inside the tripod she loses power. :smt011 .Once again i try the screw driver with no luck.I see a boat with three guys pass by and turn around. One of them was a friend from Thomasville,Tony Pope.(thanks Tony).I was on the phone with my mechanic when Tony tells me that the guy with him works on boats. .He takes the screw driver and starts it up and this time she makes to the ramp.Take it to mechanic and he looks it over.Ignition switch is bad.Funny how it chose to go out when bad weather was envolved.Lesson for the day.If you have a problem fix it before you go out.She will be ready for Team Seatrout next weekend.

It must be going around. My Lawn Tractor came down with the same thing this morning. It still won't crank and the 1 of wires in the harness gets really hot when I try.

Maybe it was the strange weather today.
I am sitting at the lighthouse this morning looking at the rain.
My cell phone goes into camera mode by itself and clicks off a quick 100 pictures.
The shutter sound also changed. It sounds like a duck quacking.
Go figure.

Called Bird dog today to tell him my story and he says i should get a new motor, same thing my mechanic jokeingly told me and my wife .I have been wanting a 150 V-Max but figured it was out of the question. After getting off the phone with BD i tell my wife that after i pay off the loan on the boat i am getting me a new engine. She gave the normal wife speech after i told her the price but it looks like the ole sea spot might be getting to the honey holes a little quicker soon.

I'm at a loss here.....what did do with the screwdirver to get the motor started?? Did you use it to hot wire or bang on the starter, or something else? Hey I gotta know these things to be more self sufficent, Thanks.

Use the screwdriver to short across the wires coming to the starter to make the connection normally made by turning the starter switch. Be danged careful and be sure there aren't a bunch of gas fumes from repeated attempts to start. I saw an engine go into flambeau mode once doing this.

I would suggest going by a boat shop and let someone show you how.I learned from years of starting old tractors.
