Working at the pond

Just got back in from "working." Had to do some real work out east of town today, so I threw a pole in the car just in case  Finished up work and had a few minutes.....so

I was poorly equipped to fish today, but managed to catch a few nice bream. The wind was blowing pretty good and I couldn't cast very far out past the weeds and grass to get to the fish.......I was fishing "Larry Dahlberg" style...all up in the weeds and bushes

I didn't have any corks with me, so I thought. Then I remembered I had one plugging my cooler! I pulled it out and rigged it with a twig. I had a scrap piece of gulp from the other day at AP, so I figured why not try it for a bream. Here ya go.....

Image

The bream were not hitting beetle spins, so I stayed with the gulp :smt005

I caught a smaller bream and decided to try "live bait" for some of the bass I had seen swirling the water....

Image

This little guy didn't bob the cork 3 times before he got SLAMMED!!!!!!! The bass that hit this thing hit so hard that the cork sounded like a chugbug coming across the water when it ran. I tried to set the hook but the bass straightened it out after about a 5 second fight :o

I got another "livie" on and BAMM again!!!!! The cork disappreared in the midst of a huge swirl...man that's cool to watch. The bait came out and when I pulled the bait to the top, this crazy bass slammed it again right on top of the water!!!! Awesome!!!! Here's yours truly trying to take a picture of the jumping bass rather than reeling the thing in :hammer:

I lost this one too. The price you pay for being ill-equipped for big fish :smt009 I estimated this fish to be about 8 lbs. I tried this routine a few more times losing the bass everytime. Oh well, it was fun to hook 'em

I managed 12 nice bream and lost every one of the bass :smt012 They were some big ones too. I'll be better prepared next time

NICE! Way to put a bunch of random junk together to catch fish. You are the McGuyver of the Big Bend community! HA HA

Love the Tombstone, Doc reference.....well done

The pond is on family property in Jefferson County. I find time to fish there about 1-2 times a year :smt009
