Butch and I checked in at the St. James Inn about 10 Friday morning. Left there and launched at the Lanark ramp.
Headed east to Turkey Point Shoals. Butch got a nice fat 19 7/8 trout on topwater. Things are looking good for the terribly stained water.
In the next 2 hours we get 2 more 16 inch trout.
With the slow bite we start exploring. Long story short....49 miles on the GPS and no more trout.

A good supper of fried flounder at St. James Grill was right on time. :lick: :lick: I recommend the St. James Grill when you are hungry and in the Lanark area.

I had a poor nights sleep. Butch talked most of the night. Yes, he was asleep. Trouttrent and Austin talked most of the night. They were awake.

Met TinCan at The Moorings at 6 a.m. paid up and headed to the BP for a breakfast sandwich and 18 gallons of tournament fuel. I also recommend the Carrabelle BP for breakfast. :lick:

Launched about 7 a.m. and headed east again. Got to our first hole and started catching lots of trout. The largest went almost 15 inches.
About 9:30 we move to some deeper water to get a better drift onto a shallow flat. I throw a gulp on a jig and work the deep bottom looking for a trout. BAM!!! Fish on...He is coming to the top, I know it is a large trout coming up to shake and throw the hook. The Falcon Lowrider rod is bent double...the Revo reel is screaming drag...the 40 inch cobia breaks the surface. He is hooked good. Five or six trips around the boat, then under the boat and around again he is starting to tire.
Butch places the gaff strategically in the throat. Up and into the boat. Butch re-places the gaff strategically into the skull and the brain. Cobia dispatched and into the cooler.

We leave the short trout in search of their larger kin. Went back to the spot Butch got a good one the day before. We fished there until time to weighin. We could only manage 3 keepers for the tourney. We travelled another 39 miles.
Still can't wait until next time to redeem ourselves. We gotta' get out of this slump.

Back at the weigh in we enjoyed some really good sausage dogs prepared by Larry Cobb. Thank you Larry.
We gave away lots of prizes including a FALCON ROD courtesy of FALCON and a $50 gift certificate from Tallahassee Marine Center.
Hope to see all ya'll at the October tournament out of Jerrys Bait and Tackle.

Anytime I fish is a fun time.
Sometimes are more fun than others.
Catching is way more fun than fishing.

I think Katie is cashing in on her luck the last week. TWO Falcon Rods in three days.
