I just heard Jim on the WC say that 24,000 remained on Galveston Island. They expect a 20 ft surge, which will completely sbmerge the island!

WHAT ARE THOSE FOLKS THINKING!?

I've never been there, but for a barrier island, I'd think 10 ft would submerge it. I saw something about a seawall, so maybe it has more elevation that SGI. My folks emailed me some pics from St. George from this afternoon, the water was almost up to Harry A's doorstep. I can't imagine what its like NEAR the hurricane.

I hate to say it but those will be the folks that complain the gubment didnt do enough.

Also heard the Sherriff's dept told folks that stayed to write their SS# on their arm with a Sharpie in case they need to ID the body ....................ouch!

Surely anyone with any brain would take that as a hint TO GET OFF THE ISLAND!!

Agreed!! I could understand how you would want to stay with your home & stuff, but come on.... None of that is worth your life...

One word....Idiots. The 911 dispatchers out there received calls until the power went out and lines went down of people who realized they had screwed up and wanted out. As they were told, no one was coming after 9PM.

I hope their stupidity didn't cost too many their lives. It cost several.
