What a day. My partner Ashley and I fished in the rain for most of the morning.
Several short trout and a mediocre red by 10:30 this morning.
We decided to fish out of Aucilla. Most everyone else fished out of Carrabelle.

From 10:45 'til 12 o'clock we boated 9 keepers with 2 over 20. We lost several good fish arms reach from the net. Several more really good fish hooked up and spit the hook.
We decided to move out deeper.
First stop a giant blue inhales Ashley's Spook. Then leaves with his Spook.
I get a major explosion on my renegade. Topwater grouper about 24 inches. Four feet of water, into a small rock pile he goes. Breaks off.
Ashley is re-lured. Big blue breaks him off. Wrong....as it comes by the boat we see there are 2 big blues on the same lure.
I hook up with a good trout. Into the boat.
When the trout comes to the boat we see two cobia swimming with it, both keeper size.

Tide is leaving fast. We have to leave. We barely make it in before the water falls out.

Back at the weigh in we find out we are good enough for 1st place, just ahead of CaseyCook and Baygator.
The best part is we gained a 6.5 pound lead over our nemisis Jeff Pettis and Bo Raker for Angler of the Year.

Anyone interested in fishing should know the reds are thick out of Aucilla.

I want to Thank my partner Ashley Mock for a fun day of fishing.

Well Done guys. How many boats were in the tourney? How was the water clarity?

7 boats. Do you think the low turn out this year is due to the fact that Scott is not running the tournaments this year? The weather was bad today. It just seems the number of boat is on the decline?

Now what would it matter if Scott was running the tournament? They are doing a great job over at Jerry's. It may have more to do with the weather being crap and the fishing too lately. There are three fine people running that shop and doing everything they can to support fishermen in these trying times.

Good job JT and Ashley.

Football and Hunting, and fuel prices. The Seatrout tournaments historically decline in participation this time of year.
Suber is right too. Give JBT all the support you can.
Everyone stop by JBT and give them your fishing report on the way home.

What is more impressive is CaseyCook is holding OUR fish NOT his. :-D
Thank you SS for NOT telling me where you caught your fish on Saturday.
It made us hunt for fish...but we found them without your help.

P.S. I never realized CaseyCook was shorter than me until I saw these pictures.
No wonder he usually finishes behind me.
Tall people rule.

I think jumptrout summed it up. fuel prices + football + hunting was the reason i wasnt fishing this weekend.. with hunting being the main reason, aint nothing like limiting out on blue wings to start the season off!
