Steinhatchee Blues 9-19 and 9-20-08

Went to Steinhatchee for a long weekend Friday to catch up on fishing. Lots of bait in the water. Bluefish were absolutely everywhere. Ladyfish, Jacks, and the usual suspects were harassing the baitfish from Dallus Creek all the way to Rocky Creek. We did manage to find a few trout in the mix. It was kinda of a neat pattern. The trout seemed to only hang out with Ladyfish. If there were blues there, trout were not. Maybe they're scared of those teeth. The trout we did manage to find, were nice fatties and most were legal size. Wind blew a gail Friday and was worse Saturday which made it hard to see the bait schools but of course the birds usually gave them away. My partner caught a four foot blacktip on an outfit even a little light for trout and reds. He fought it from an anchored boat and after about 20 minutes surprisingly bested it. The lure-d'jour (even the shark ate it) was the mirror lure mirodine with a green back. Lots of action in those bait pods, so if you want your string stretched, go get um.
