Chandeleurs

I realize that geographically this is a little off, but there are good fishermen here and I need some advice. A bunch of my fishing buddies and I are discussing going to the Chandeleurs for a 3 day charter. I know Russ C has posted about this and others may have made the trip also.
Any help on this topic would be appreciated, good, bad or whatever.

All I know is what I have read and seen on TV. It looks like it could be a dream trip.
Just don't get your hopes up TOO high, any trip anywhere can turn out to be a bust. It is especially painful when it is an expensive trip that you plan far in advance. Been there done that.

Been there a couple of times but, a little different situation than what you are planning. We had several boats that made the run out of Biloxi to Free Mason Island(?) camped on the island, waded and fished from the boats. Was disappointed in the quality of the trout and the redfish. Didn't enjoy having the shark grab my floating stringer when I was in waist deep water
Maybe we just hit it wrong and we didn't have a guide. Although several in our party had been going there for years and seem to think our trips were about average. All and all the trips we OK but I've had much better trips going to Veince, LA. and fishing for trout/redfish out of there. Good luck on your trip

I have not done this trip but always wanted to. I have seen some posts on this from another forum and they seem to have the following flavor:
Not as good as it once was
Staying on the mother ship and fishing with guides in the skiffs is fun for a group of friends (and reasonable)
The Misissippi is pumping out alot of mud right now so the water quality even worse than usual
The whole area is subsiding badly so if you want to do dont wait to long
It is sort of my opinion that we have some pretty good Trout fishing around our part of the country (50 to 70 trout days are possible) the limits are just much more liberal over there due to lack of pressure) but how many trout does a guy want to keep. Much of our country is beautiful with clear water, sandy bottom, grass beds and wooded shore lines. Its not about any of that over there. They fish over mud and Oysters where the visibility is about 2".
One way to judge what that area is like is there are probably more people living in Lanark Village than live on the entire Gulf coast of LA, and if I am wrong I am not to far off.
