Talquin 7/19

It was a long day! At least for me. I drew Mr. Talquin for this tournament. He showed me I really don't know how to fish with a Carolina rig. I usually fish a Texas rig. But the fish wouldn't bite it, Saturday. The fish were deep, and not very active. The presentation had to be slow. If the fish felt any resistance, they turned loose. I did learn a lot about fishing a Carolina rig, Saturday. My partner is as good as there is, and fishes a Carolina rig, almost exclusively. The difference in our stringers at the end of the day showed that. I missed 7 fish during the day because I let the fish feel me. I should have had a limit. The bottom line is, my partner and I had about the same amount of bites. He won the tournament with a 7 fish limit that weighed a little over 17 pounds. I finished 4th with 4 fish that weighed about 9 pounds. I suppose I should fish a Carolina rig more.

Thanks for the report TC,
When you get a chance, how bout a quick lesson in the difference between a Carolina and a Texas rig. Also, what is the technique for avoiding the fish feeling you on the other end? Thanks.

Birddog, we were fishing structure on ledges all day. We fished from 8' to 12' on top, dropping off into the river channel.

Good Report TC. I am real partial to Carolina rigging myself. Especially this time of year. I fish the ledges on the Flint a lot with this rig. I have to use an ounce of lead to keep it on the bottom because of current. But without the current it's a waste of time anyway.

I despise Carolina rig fishing.
It's almost a fun as watching paint dry, until you set the hook.
Rule#1. If you think you got a bite, SET THE HOOK!!!!
Rule#2 If you think you feel grass on the lead, refer to rule #1 SET THE HOOK
Rule #3 It cost nothing to set the hook. When in doubt, SET THE HOOK.
Anything less than 3' of leader ain't Corolina Riggin'!!
BTW, Did I mention... SET THE HOOK!!!!?

Dewey, I was shown all of those lessons Saturday. The guy I was fishing with can smell a fish messing with his Carolina rig. I'm a died in the wool Texas rig fisherman. But the fish wouldn't touch a Texas rig. I fussed all day long, but I fished that D@*# Carolina rig.
