After reading Capt. Keyser's post about his trolling motor/anchor woes in the weekend tournament, I wanted to pass this along.

I'm testing an alternative anchoring system that costs way less than a Power-Pole. It's called the Stick It Anchor Pin (stickitanchorpins.com) and so far I'm impressed. It's a resin composite shaft with a T-handle and lanyard system. Worked great in grass and sand on Saturday off the docks around Lanark. Haven't tried it yet on shell/oyster bottom, but a guide in Crystal River uses his all the time (in combo with his P-P). It flexes under a strain and comes out mostly clean due to the smooth finish. I got the 8-foot model, but they sell shorter versions for smaller boats and kayaks. It fits in my gunnel rod rack when not in use. The inventor is a professional guide in SW Florida. Good guy, too.

Bird Dog, I know you redfish pros love the P-P. I've fished with them many times, so I know the benefits. But I just can't bring myself to put that stinger on the back of my pretty boat.

I'll still stake out with the push pole whenever possible. But on those occasions when it won't stick, I'll be using the pin instead.

On your boat I don't blame you Dave. It would definitely be an eyesore.

BTW, I'd love to get a ride on that boat sometime.

Alright Silver. Post a pic of the boat so we can all see.

I tested a capt. dicks stake out pole over the summer. It is the 10' version of the ones he makes for yak's. Same basic concept i think. They do work well and held my boat just fine in weather that was nearly too nasty to even stand on the bow of the boat.

I got a stick it pin and it worked great on my 22 foot bay boat in some decent wind at a creek mouth- once we fond a good sticking point in some sand...
works till i get $1800 to blow

I agree. As long as I am in a soft bottom area. It is worthless on hard bottom.

I also have a Stick It. Works great in sand and mud. Doesn't work at all in hard bottom. The first time I tried to use it I found out I was on rock bottom. However, it's worked fine every other time I've used it.

I've been using them for about a year now and they are great! In a really stiff wind, I'll just put the second one out and don't worry. I do keep the ancor handy for rock bottom areas!

Looks good but if I was going with a manual type anchoring system I think I would go with the Wang Anchor.

That looks cool, but with the Stick-it, you can anchor from the bow, side, or wherever you have a tie-off point. The Stick-it seems to be a little more versatile!

You fellars keep talkin', but once you go power pole, there's no looking back.
