Finally got out to do some trolling in around 40 feet. After an hour with red and white, and green fire tiger plugs we had 4 in the box.
Decided to try and use one of many live baits we loaded up on a t local reef in 45 foot of water. When we got to the spot, three were no other boats and site and calm waters... and what I saw next, i can only describe as a fish haven. We shut the boat off and saw within a minute, a cobia that would have gone over 60lbs and some smaller trailers, 3 or 4 huge sharks, several schools of yellow tail jacks, at least 30 fish, numerous AJs, at least 40-50 in the 15-20lb class and a couple barracudas cruising for a meal. All 10 feet under the boat as if we went even there. A first for me!
To say the lease, we got i n a frenzy and started dropping to the bottom and throwing out flat lines. The grouper were there but we only managed 2 off there, due to numerous cut off and break offs.
After havingour fun with the jacks on spinning gear and packing out the fish box we were wupped, but the fish were stillthere and eatin. I dropped to a school of AJs only to have a lone cobia sneak in and get the shinner. 25lb cobia in the box!
At the end of the day we were about to pull out and I saw what i thought was a cuda, only to watch my friend hook and catch a 30lb kingfish!
Eneded up catchin' 6 grouper (biggest going 12lbs), (lots of shorts), 1 cobia, 1 kingfish, 1 spanish, 12-15 AJs, 8-10 Jacks....
Glad I took off work!
Only pic of day...
