I got up this morning to the sound of rain and had a bad feeling but Dad and I were committed to a day of fishing or at least trying.
We made it to Wilson's around 6:00 this morning for ice, some new plugs and some snacks. Another stop at McDonald's for a biscuit and off we went in to the wild gray yonder.
Looked a little like this when we got to the end of the pier.

We ran a few miles south into a flat that I thought would have both water and fish. Well, there was water but not much in the way of fish. We caught a few short trout, some really short rock bass and a bunch of pinfish. I was throwing a bone colored Top Dog and Dad was using a Cajun Thunder and a bunch of different colored GULP!. Dad finally boxed a keeper rock bass to about 11" so the skunk was off and we had yet to see the sun.
Quite a few boats came blowing by the flat headed for the hill and I thought they just got tired of the wind. Then it started raining. No problem, I put my rain suit in the boat and Dad had a rain jacket so we're good to go. Well, I only had my jacket, which was fine till the rain started running off of my back. I've got on quick dry shorts so no problem, but wait I ain't got on quick dry boxers.
I finally land the first keeper trout to around 20" on a bone colored Rapala slash bait. We got a couple more rock bass and the sun came out, the wind laid down and the fishing picked back up.
I got another 2 keeper trout and that was the cooler for the day. Off the water by 3:30 and headed home by 4:00.

The end result

With the fish cleaned and some dry drawers on I had yet another hard decision to make

Not a bad choice on either. Great fay fishing considering not so good tides and a stiff wind.

Maybe you can elighten me a little on the tides. I thought there was pretty good water movement on Saturday, with a negative low around 11:30 am and a pretty good high around 6 pm, so there should have been good water movement for a good part of the fishing hours, am I missing something?
