Krissi Flatt Tournament- 3 Swings, 3 strikes

My partner Chewy and I started out fishing Aucilla. Fished West of the river in some areas that produced the winning red in the FSU and KA tournaments. We were very confindent as the morning started but that confidense turned to frustration and confusion as the day proceeded. We bombed the shorelines with Spooks for about and hour while the tide was still up but got NOTHING. We hit up a couple of other areas as the tide began to rip out but still could not find fish.
Knowing that we had a negative tide approaching we decided to get back in a creek to hammer the fish that would get locked in. We fished hard for a couple of hours but got nothing. We fished topwater, jigs, twitch baits, LIVE PINFISH but nothing was working.
With the clock ticking away we new we had to make a move, but what to due as the wind was pumping from the North keeping the incoming tide stalled. We had no other choice but to get the boat on a plain and try to scoot out of the creek and prey that we could make it over the shallow flat and into deeper water. Off we go, and soon after we run aground. We raise the motor and kill the engine. We get out and push for a good 400 yrds and finally make it to about a ft of water and are able to run crank the engine and continue to Idle out to deeper water.
We make a long run to Palmetto Island with hopes of getting back to a trough on the East side of the island. We run over the to the area and once again get out of the boat and begin pushing.
It is about 2:30 by this point and we don't have a fish in the boat. After pushing the boat another 300yrds back toward the trough, we give up. We are covered in sweat and mud and our legs are like wet noodles. I rig up a gold Bomber and start trudging throught the mud back towards the creek. I finally reach the deeper water and instantly hook up on a good red, I fight the fish up within site of it and realize that it was a good one. Then with the shake of it's head the lure pops out and I begin to cry.
All this dayum work and I blew my chance. I fish a bit longer and loose two more fish.
With our tail between our legs we get back in the boat and head to the landing. We fished our arses off, we tried every spot in the play book and came up with nothing. It sure is a humbling feeling to show up to a tournament weigh in skunked, however I was very happy to see Casey and Pat there grinning ear to ear. Congrats to the three of you, you deserve every penny that you earned on such a tough day of fishing.
