I just finished up building a new center console on my skiff(turned out pretty good if I say so myself)and rewiring almost everything. The last problem yet to deal with is my transducer. I can't get a reading when I'm moving anywhere faster than a high idle. I assume it is that the transducer is stearn mounted at the bottom of the transom next to the motor and the turbulence is affecting the reading. The unit is a Humminbird 565 dual beam. I know it's not a high end piece of eqipment, but it should be able to work a lot better than that. Anyone here recommend where and how to mount it on a CS?

Mine does the same thing. Gives me depth readings of like 1000 feet at speed. I beleive its cavitation caused by a weld ridge (aluminum boat) at the base of the transom. I've just learned to live with it.

Probably your boat - if the transducer is white water when running it won't work - I lowered the one I installed just below the hull and it would read while running.

Also, be sure to have it pitched down so the back end of the ducer is lower than the front end. This will help force clean water across it. It doesn't have to be a severe angle. 3-5 degrees will do it most times.

I noticed mine was giving some really weird readings the last time I was fishing. The screws weren't tight enought holding it on the boat, so at higher speeds it was moving around. Now it is working like a champ.

In other words "You got a loose screw Pirate!"
