For those of you who are duck hunters in the area and are not presently involved with a particular chapter, you may want to put some thought into helping your local Ducks Unlimited chapter, or starting one if there is not presently one near you. DU is a top notch organization that places more of its proceeds (on a percentage basis) with its stated cause (preserving wetlands and conserving waterfowl) than most other major non-profit organizations including United Way.

There are a number of chapters throughout the Big Bend area and in South Georgia that would appreciate any volunteer time or efforts you may be able to give. For those of you that may not have the time but would like to help, monetary donations or gifts of raffle/auction items are always welcome as well. This organization thrives off of its volunteers and the donations made by many gracious individuals and businesses. Anything you may be able to consider is appreciated.

One of the benefits in our region is that much of the duck habitat is also prime fishing habitat, meaning that when DU puts forth an effort to help the ducks, they are also helping the fish as well. So, even if you are not a duck hunter, you may benefit from this organization which is not focused on hunting alone.

The events held by DU chapters are fun-filled nights with raffle prizes and auction items, usually a top-notch meal and some form of presentation. These are great events to attend with spouses, friends, co-workers or fishing buddies. These events take a lot of preparation and hard work on the part of a few volunteers. Any and all additional help is welcome at any time and in any form.

If anyone is interested in helping with the Aucilla River Chapter (Monticello), or in making donations of one sort or another, please contact me at <caldwell@simpsonnurseries.com> or call me at 850-528-1079. If you are interested in helping with another chapter, you may contact me and I can put you in touch with the appropriate person for the chapter in your area. Thanks for your consideration.
