Here you go Chalk. Great new pattern (to me) for reds when they are tailing or real, real skinny. Lands soft and looks yummy in the water. It works with or without claws.
Hook: Tiemco 811s or Mustad 34007 size 2
Body: Two Schlappen hackles brown/grizzly or olive/grizzly
Eyes: Bead chain or x-small lead eyes
Tail: Rust marabou
Legs: Round sili legs/barred
Claws (optional): Splayed saddle hackles.
Weedguard: 20lb mason
Instructions:
1. Tie in eyes on top of hook leaving room forward for weedguard.
2. Tie back to bend and tie in short clump of rust marabou tips.
3. Pull two fuzzy based, webby Schlappen feathers (good Schlappen is the key to this fly). Tie in Schlappen at bend for palmering. Do not palmer yet.
4. Tie in sili legs (3 or 4) Merkin style between bend and eyes. Wrap thread to hook eye.
5. Palmer Schlappen forward. Tie down at hook eye.
6. Tie in mason weed guard (I like single post).
7. Whip finish and cement.
8. Trim hackle at belly of the fly (top of hook) flat.
