Butch and I pulled in at Jerrys Bait and Tackle about 5:15 am.
TinCan was there with his guest Jim, a saltwater virgin.
TinCan was afraid to take our money in the dark. He made us all wait until JBT opened the doors and turned on the lights.
We paid up and headed off to Savannahs' for breakfast. Then off to Aucilla.
Got launched ahead of TC and headed down river. When TC came by us we were hooked up with a nice redfish.
Fished on down the river and side creeks on the falling tide. Picked up a 16 inch trout.
The wind was steady out of the west. While the water got low it never got too low. At least that is what we thought. We headed off shore to 5-6 foot water we had fished in the past. Coming up on the spot we see a bar rising to the surface. We both said we never new a bar was there. Our 6 foot water was 18 inches deep.
We set up a drift anyway. As we dropped off the bar what appeared to be a 4 pound trout skyrocketed from the water past my plug. Two more giant leaps and misses she loses interest.
We pick up a couple shorts.
Staying in the deeper water we move a little east. Picked up a decent white trout and a couple rock bass.
By now the tide has turned and we move in near some offshore bars. The east end of the bars drops into a nice trough that usually holds some fish. Second cast hooks a very large trout. Gills flared and head shaking she pulls off. Next cast an equally large trout does the same. Then we pick up a good 17 for the box.
We re-drift this spot several times hooking and losing good fish. Finally get a 4 pounder to stay on the hook.
We move in a few hundred yards and pick up a 19 that wouldn't quit striking. Hit 4-5 good times without getting hooks. Finally came up from the bottom and sucked the plug down at the boat.
Needing the 5th speckled trout we work our way back towards the ramp with no luck except some short reds.
Back at the weigh in we have 8.56 pounds with our 4 fish, our big trout was 3# 14 oz.
We came in 3rd place for the day beating the stew out of CaseyCook,Snatch n Reel and Junior "off the Chain" Dice.
