My son's first deer!!!!!!
After seeing deer every morning on the property since last week, and taking a nice 9 pt. Sunday morning, we decided to go try for a doe before doe season ends on Friday. Me, Avery and my buddy Jeff headed up to the property around 6:00am. I put Avery in my stand and even let him keep my Browning .280 rifle, hoping he would see a nice deer. I sat on the far end of the property with Jeff in the middle. We were covered up in coyotes everywhere and they carried on till just before sunrise. I broke out another box of ammo hoping to take target practice on any that passed my way A few passed in a nearby field around 7:20am, but too far off to take a reasonable shot It was another beautiful morning in the woods and I just knew one of us was going to see some deer....
About 7:30am, I hear a shot! I was hoping that it was a deer shot and not a rodent shot. About 15 minutes later, Avery came walking through the woods towards my stand.....
I asked if that was him that shot and he said "YEP!" He told me that he had shot at a nice doe and that she was down After searching in the tall grass for just a few minutes, we found it....
Avery told me that it walked out from his right about 35 yards away. He put the sights on it and squeezed....perfect shot right through the shoulder It fell right over, then jumped back up and ran about 40 yards before falling back down in the grass. Here's "Uncle" Jeff striking a pose for the 2nd time this week with someone elses deer
Me & Avery with his first deer kill....
Avery with his stripes....
It was a great morning in the woods today and I couldn't be more proud of my boy's first deer.....I told him next time we'll get one with horns

Good job son, many more where that came from.
Doe or buck, that's a good shot.

Good deal ! You might as well give him that 280 for good.. He won't ever hunt deer with a better caliber IMHO .. Never owned one but always impressed with the caliber...

That's a great morning for everyone. You both will always remember the details of him getting his first deer.

In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. And we will understand only what we are taught.
