I finally had a chance to take two of my daughters out fishing out on the East flats/creeks, and fortunately the weather held. We couldn't buy a fish on live shrimp for several hours (go figure), but we started catching them on new penny gulps. My nine year old caught and released her first snapper, red, and flounder (all shorts), but you would've thought they were 50 lb wahoo! I took a break from rigging/baiting/untangling for a "demonstration of technique" (ha) and caught a couple 17" trout and let the little one bring it in. The 9-year old caught a keeper trout on her own. It was time to go, and the 13 year old had not caught one. I prayed for one, and she caught a 17" trout. She was overjoyed (and so was I). If someone experienced stayed after them for awhile, they would would've worn out the flounder, reds and trout. I mean I could tell they were missing lots of good hits and my younger one was pulling in what she thought was "seaweed" that I noticed was a flounder (ha). Final count 4 keeper specks. I took a couple pics, but I'm not smart enough to figure out how to insert them here.

The other interesting thing was we weren't getting hits when using 20 lb fluoro leader, but when tied straight to 8 lb. test, they were getting lots of hits.

Tomorrow afternoon might be a good "take a kid fishing day", if the wind stays down.

About the Gulp, obviously you're impressed too. I have to tell ya, those things live up to the hype. I'm a jig specialist, meaning a jig is my first choice to catch just about anything. I have to say for a gulp newbie, I am very impressed. I was getting hits on those without even moving it. And the clincher was, the cat was dying to eat them when i opened them for the first time at home. :lick: The only thing no one told me is to put them back in the bag when you're done for the day, or they shrink to bream jig size. :bang_1
