OMG I was sure I shouldn't go my partner was unable to go, my substitute had to be picked up out of the way at home, my boat was 1/2 an hour out of the way, the truck started acting crazy, as it turned out both batteries had to be replaced in route, and I didn't get to the ramp till 2:30.
About 800 yards from the tripod I killed the big motor and started to slowly drift towards a creek mouth it was on from the time we got the first bait in the water. Six nice keeper trout not sows but up to 19"s in the first forty minutes. We drifted out of the trout when we got to slightly stained water between the bars and we were awash in redsville a quick 23" & 25" hit the ice with a dozen throughbacks from 14 - 22"s in under twenty minutes, nothing in the creek so back to the top of the drift and the trout are biting weird now the tide has come in. we get hits with out hooking up or they are foul hooked its like they can't find it but are chasing to and hit in plain sight next to the boat. He was about to get me worried with the straight jig and gulp but I cranked em up with the bite a bait. We fineshed out the trout limits caught a sow to top off the box and threw back a couple more short trout and a couple big reds all in three hours. More than thirty fish total and with a little lull when we got past them in the creek so most were caught in about two hours and 1 & 1/2 drifts.
Freakish the only thing that could ever make it better is I got to make my annual call home hey sister in Syracuse N.Y. I am fishing in shorts (the way they were biting they could have been sharts) and a t-shirt I have two limits of trout & reds, she has just gotten power slammed in the worst blizzard of the year. I'm dreaming of blackened redfish and fried trout she is hoping the plow will get there before santa does. She called me a dirty word oh well better days ahead.
