I had my Paster and his son down to go fishing and we left the moorings at 7.30. It was kinda rough with good size swells, but we got to the yamaha O.K., with very little happening there we went to some hard bottom 4 miles away. We waded through the short grouper with only 2 keepers. thats when the cobia moved in, we were catching them on bottom while grouper fishing with pins. After the bite quit we had a 53 lb and a 38 lb in the box with the biggest taking up a whole one by himself. We had 2 shorts and a good one that came off at the boat, I was slow with the gaff. 8)

He was tracking me down and giving a serman on serpants of the sea. He got the big one and it was the biggest fish in his life. I guess even pasters deserve a vacation. :D

I've tried for years to get my church to buy a large fishing boat for the mens fellowship. What a great tool for reaching "the lost", talk about a captive audiance :P . You get a few guys on the boat 20 miles off shore and start preaching the gospel, where are they going to go? :D .

great idea -- why did i not think of it sooner-- that will be my recommendation at the next long range planning committee meeting, an offshore boat, who needs another bus?

as for where is the captive audiance going, i would hope heaven after a good soul wrenching on the open seas.

a great thread.

tom, you could help out our search committee since the last pastor we had loved golf, how do we attract a fisherman??

LOL

Great idea, as long as the preacher don't insist on baptising anyone in 60 foot of water. :o

How about using it as a fund raising tool. I was thinkking about raffling off a trip offshore, or would that be gambling :o

SF, i am not sure about the raffle thing, but you could certainly do a men's retreat at the coast for some fishing for 3 or 4 days.

our old pastor did that with golf about twice a year.

or how about something like Promise Keepers, only it would be FISHERS OF MEN and the guest speakers could speak by VHF while we all fish together and just for CS there would be a roaming pastor to go around and dunk anyone who needs it on the spot.

pjones, I like your idea about a retreat. Every year our biggest mens retreat is the promise keepers. Lasty year I joined christian sportsman club at the PK event in Atlanta and they specialize in outdoor activitys and events to bring men and there families together. Good stuff! 8)

I did not go to PK last year. Is the sportsmens club something new? I'll check into their website to see if they have anything there.

We are in search of a new preacher too, how do you find one that likes to fish....for fish?
