To keep things simple lets try a pictorial post - noting that we took none of the pictures :o

Saw several of these

Most of the fish would do this with a good cast

Some fly casts looked like this

The day progressed from redfish cussing to a red sunset - a trout was secured with a fly and many redfish are now adrenaline junkies from there near death experience with a hook and a rosy colored line. At the end of the day we decided that all the redfish were vegans and we must return to the vice and whip out a nice salad fly that will surely tempt their palette the next time.

So ends another year of redfish humbling bravado.

Thanks for the report chalk, about sums it up. However, other than the trout we did get some blood in the boat by the way of one of these:

He was already dead when we ran over him and the cross member on the boat trailer got him.
JT needs to keep his pets on a leash

Nice trip.

Was wondering (never tried Flyfishing)......What's the difference in casting distance between fly rods and a spinning rod/reel combo? I'm sure there's a few variables, but looking for a ballpark guesstimate.

Ron - 60 ft is about the max, you can cast further but control would be an issue....the problem we had the other day was we had too much line out...most of the fish would appear within 25 ft of the boat - hand to hand combat as Barhopr calls it.
