Kayak fishing - St. Mark's NWR area

Post by Brown trout »

Just wondering if I could get some tips on where to head out of the St. Mark's NWR area. Will be looking mostly for reds, but I won't discriminate against trout. Will those fish head up into the marsh near the lighthouse point in the spring? Still learning saltwater fish and fishing, but learning's fun. Have kayak, will paddle!

Thanks for any info.

Good luck, the Light house is a good place to start and the Long Bar just off the shore of the kight house is as good a place as any to start. You can launch at the lighthouse. You can see more launch sites at www.fcka.net Bigbendfishing.net has lots of kayakers on it with some great reports, so keep them both on your favorites bar.

After this cold snap I would launch at the Lighthouse, Wakulla Beach or any of the sites listed on Jeff's site. Then go up a creek. Better if the creek is spring fed, but it doesn't have to be. The reds won't be everywhere, but when you do find them you will likely find several in the same hole.

Watch the winter tides, because they get real low.
