FCKA Campout 2009

This past weekend a few of us kayakers went down to the ochlockonee State Park to do a bit of camping and fishing. Myself, Popeye and Soccerday made it down Friday early enough to set up the campsite and do a bit of river fishing.

The wind was blowing about 20 knots and the river was choppy, but we paddled out there looking for trout. The river was full of trout last year, this year, not so much.

The wind finally decided to calm down when we made it back to the landing. Fortunately, our campsite was about 100 yards from the river.

Suber called and said he was stopping by after work. We planned on cooking hotdogs and hanging out by the fire. Suber had other plans though. It turns out his idea of roughing it is a flat screen tv and a dvd player. All that was missing was popcorn.

We got up at the crack of dawn Saturday morning and headed to Alligator Harbor with little luck. Ran to Advantage and saw Talltails and Capncrunch and decided to try out Wakulla Beach that afternoon. The radar showed possible rain and wind, but we went out anyway. Here's one of the FCKA armada:

The bite was super slow and only a few folks caught fish. Fortunately, Millertime brought the medicine.

I went back to Tallahassee to feed the dogs and ended up staying there for the night. Got up Sunday morning and headed to Hickory for the last of the incoming tide. The weatherman said the wind was supposed to be light and he was right on the money.

It was a little foggy, but the water was ripe for sight fishing and clear as an aquarium.

I was looking for reds with no luck, but the best thing about the few hours I spent on the water today was that I caught fish. Got into the trout pretty good and made up for the lock jaw on friday and saturday.
I just read my report and I forgot something very important, pictures of fish.

It was fun fellar's. Hope to do it again next year.
