I have a Yamaha F150 w/ a SS Prop that got into a disaggrement w/ a rock and now sports a slightly shorter skeg and one bent blade on the prop. I straightened the prop back close to original but there is still a small vibration. I heard there was a place in Perry that can straighten them. Has anyone done this with SS props? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

More than once and hope not to go a again anytime soon is the shaft bent?

I really have been quite pleased with the work & price both.

What Gator can't fix, Porters Marine in Woodville can. Including bent drive shafts and prop shafts.

Just once I would like to read a report where someone got into with a rock and the rock lost.

I have a friend that owns a machine shop that says no problem w/ fixing the skeg. He is not in favor of the skeg guards b/c he says hitting something w/out a skeg guard will take a chunk off your skeg but w/ it you will have a better chance of removing the entire skeg. Porters must do great work from the positive feedback on this site. Just wondering if there were any opinions on the skeg guard.

He does great work. When he did mine he told me it'd be ready Friday, he called me on a Wednesday asking when was I planning on getting it outta his way, ya can't beat that.
The skeg guard gave me piece of mind and ya can't put a price on that.

Been there, done that. I didn't worry about the skeg. I am in Macon and use the Sports Center in Perry. They sent it out and it came back good as new. I had a vibration too at a certain RPM and it was due to a bent prop shaft, so the prop may not be all that was bent. the whole bill was about half of what a lower unit would have been, so I guess I was lucky.

I was only going about 20 knots and was way out furhter than I thought a rock shouldbe, but it was only and hour or so after a pretty low tide. Was a little south of the Grey Mare. Needless to say I am more cautious than I used to be.

Dem pesky rocks tend to pop up all over this area.

Pardon the ignorance, but when you bend a blade, is there a chance the prop could get out of balance? Follow on, if so, would one want to balance (if that can be done) when getting the prop fixed?

A prop winning a battle with a rock would be a little like Roy Crabtree voting to increase the number of reef fish a recreational angler can take home. We all want to see it but it is not going to HAPPEN
