Puglisi Pinfish

Post by Terrier »

I've been playing around with puglisi fiber pinfish patterns - finally starting to tie thin enough. These are tied with have fly lipps:

Also I've tried a few ice fur patterns for specks - I don't know if they'll work but the ice fur is cheap:

Are you using one color fibers and then using a marker to add the colors on the pinfish? How do they track through the water with the lips? Looks killer!

There's 3-4 colors in the pinfish: baitfish belly, sand, golden olive and pinfish. I use chartreuse and blue angel hair for the flash. I've got some blue pearl and iridescent yellow angel hair on order so I'll see how that looks. The fly lipps work pretty good as long as you tie with small amounts of fiber, especially on the belly. The fly lipps help get the fly down more quickly than that long strip to get the fly to sink.

Those are beautiful. I don't flyfish, but I'm impressed.

I don't use epoxy with the fly lipps - I tie them in with mono thread and then coat the wraps with Zap a Gap

Casting those puglisi flies (for me anyway) is like casting a whiffle ball - the fly lipp may actually make it a bit easier to cast due to the added weight.
