Clip from a SEMA newsletter.......
SEMA has learned that Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) may support including a nationwide “Cash for Clunkers” program in the Senate’s economic stimulus bill. A vote is expected this week. Under the draft program, the federal government would give a cash voucher to any individual making less that $50,000 a year ($75,000 for families) who would allow the turned-in car to be crushed. As you are aware, Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) is proposing a similar program to target SUVs and pickup trucks that make less than 18 mpg (Chevy Silverados, Dodge Dakotas, Ford F-Series, etc.). These efforts represent a direct threat to the many SEMA member small businesses that provide services and products to maintain the target vehicles, including equipment that increases fuel economy and reduces emissions.
