March Tournament

I've been thinking for some time about trying to make one of the tournaments.....Looks like the March 6th date I could make.

That being said, today I had to run down to Chiefland on some business. On the way back I detoured through Steinhatchee and Keaton.First time I ever been to either place.

Looking around Keaton I was wondering about the motel at Keaton marina. If you were able to get a room there, what would you do about launching.Sure they got a ramp. Also what about parking ? I didn't see anywhere you could park a bunch of trucks with trailers.

Next, having not fished south of Spring Warrior wondered about rocks, bars ect....I figured if worse came to worse I could run up toward
Spring Warrior or Fenholloway..Have fished around that area quite a bit..

Also, can you pay your membership and tournament fees at the fish fry?

To sum it up, guess I'd just appreciate any advise anybody might have on Keaton to a newcomer...

You probably can't get a room by now; but give them a call. You launch at the public ramp (nice ramp) and drive down the canal or they have a lift at the marina if you want to pay them. Not alot of parking around the marina; but, there are some spaces across the street (if nothings changed in the last year). Not as many rocks and bars south of Spring Warrior; but, there are some. Gotta be careful like anywhere else in our area. Everybody generally pays their tourney fees when you sign in the morning. I'll let one of the officers answer the dues question.

Unless you are rooming with someone, there are no rooms remaining for that weekend.

Most of us launch at the public launch and park the boats in the canal behind the marina. There are a couple of dirt lots to park, or you can park along the road. But it can be a challenge.

Most folks run north during the tourney so you'd be in familiar territory.

You can pay membership fees at the tourney.

You can pay dues and tournament fees at the sign in.
Many of the competitors will be running to Spring Warrior anyway.
The marina is closed until March 1. You might get a phone answer and might get a room. I think our bunch may have booked them up.
There are places to stay in Perry.
Hope you come join in the fun.
You can't have this much fun for $20 bucks anywhere else. Except with CaseyCooks Swamp Donkeys. They are 2 for $20.

I just checked their site and they are open but with modified hours.
There is plenty of parking across the road and along either side of the road. The public ramp is a nice ramp (for the area) I know for a fact that you can launch a 22' bay boat on a -1.5 low tide.
