What kind of set up do you guys use when fishing a cajun thunder? I have been using a 7ft med heavy rod with a stadic 4000 and power-pro. I am thinking about trying a 6"6" med heavy rod with 10 pound mono since it will give me a little more "spring". What do you guys think?

Yeah, me either. It was on a fishing show the other day with some dude muskie fishing!

I use a 71/2' Falcon Coastal with a Spheros or Stradic 4000 and usually 8lb test and you can sling a CT over the courthouse with it.. I like keeping lure as far as practical from the boat. May miss a few but I don't think it spooks the fish as much.

I like to fish mine a long distance from the boat, also. I either use 3'' gulp shrimp or live pins about 3'' long. And I like a 7 ft. med. action rig with about 12 lb. mono. Good luck with it, it's a good rig when fished the right way.

6'6" medium action Ugly Stik with 10# power pro and loose drag works great for me....I use 1/8 oz jighead for slower flutter on the fall....
for ease of casting I add a 1/8 oz rubber core sinker crimped on bottom of CT wire...just my 0.02

Nope you need to stay with what you have. Mono on a CT rod will result in less hookups. 7 foot rod will keep the casting distance where you need it. Remember the goal is to throw as far away from the boat as possible. If you get a strike at the end of your cast you are going to need the PP to set the hook.

BTW, I use the exact same setup as you so I may be biased.

Me too reel till you feel then make them squeal.

Turn the reel handle to take up slack loose drag major hook set to where the drag slides for me much of the time.

When I use a CT it's usually on a 6' medium Lightning Rod and 12 lb. test mono. Give the new system you're thinking about a try. If you don't like it you can always switch back. The only person that has to like the set up you're fishing with is you.

You don't have to be able to cast from Live Oak Island to the lighthouse to catch trout. The hook and line commercial guys used to use canepoles. You can still do that if you are where they are and you are quiet.

4ooo stradic very good for large reds and cobia...i Use power 4/15 on my 4000 10/2 on the 2500....I no longer use the CT..I use the bayside extreme popper with a titanium wire...less bends....a good tip...tie a short piece of mono on the top portion if you use braid... alot less fowling.. About a 2' 20 lb. FLOUROCARBON leader with a 2/0 to 3/0 circle hook is my setup...Rod choice for me is 7' redbone med action on the 4000, 7'med light on the 2500....... 7' at least is a must for casting distance... a 7'6" is'nt bad either....i think mono with the cajun thunder would be great for trout... although mono is a tougher hookset at a distance, another reason i love powerpro.. ..That's just my prefernce though.....good luck to you.....

If it was me, I don't think I'd go over a med power rod for trout. You gotta remember those soft mouths. That med-hvy is gonna be pretty stout and unforgiving, but if you go that route use mono. The line stretch should be enough to soften the tip a little.

Cajun Thunder. You are missing out on big fish if you are using this thing any other time than in the heat of the Summer.

Now if you absolutely haaaaaaaaave to use this apparatus then PP is the way to go. Long rod, I prefer the 2500 Stradic or Saros to the 4000 just cuz they are smaller and lighter but we aren't talkin reels.

Dave, I like the 7' rod, but in a medium action. It allows you to really whip it out there. Because of the long casts I like PowerPro for reduced stretch. You get a better hook set even if you have a little slack in the line.
