I don't have a problem with this. People should be reminded of what our troops are sacrificing as long as it is done respectfully and honorably. I never could figure out why George H. W. Bush initiated this policy to start with. If your going to send troops off to war and to be killed, then you should not ban people from taking pictures of the end game, but like I said it should be done with reverence. salute2 to all our troops serving all over the world!

Where I have a problem is when they start taking pics of the grieving survivors of the soldiers :smt011 salute2

It's one of those things where you scratch your head and wonder why it was ever banned in the first place. The media will make a big deal about this and you will see stuff on the news for 3 or 4 days, the pundants will have a field day for a week or so, then you won't hear another word about it.

So far I have not liked one thing that BHO has done so far. This is just another grandstand and another press conference. I for one would like to see some leadership come from the Oval Office.

I agree that it is not a problem so long as the media treats it with due reverence and respect. That being said I think we overestimate our media. These are the same people who had a helicopter hovering over the morgue to report live on the movements of the little Anthony girl's body. :( They prey on anything they can get an audience for in the pursuit of profit and ratings. It is a sad reflection on our society that it apparently works. I vote with the remote and switch to the outdoor, travel, or discovery channel.

Exactly. I have no problem with the pictures but it dayum better be with respect and reverence for the fallen men and women. No need to show greiving widows or mothers or parentless children. Such things are uncalled for and ruthless.
Much like with the economy, they have scared people half to death and scared them out of doing the only thing that will pull us out and that's spending their money. The prey on fear and make for dang sure it's blasted at us 24/7.

Unfortunately the media too often wants to make the news instead of report the news. I fear that some will be exploiting our fallen to further thier own agendas.Wouldn't be the first time, I remember watching nightly news with my Grandpa in the late 60's and early 70's. When we had family, friends and neigbors in Viet Nam and it was a more objective time in News history. Every day I pray for our service men and women and for the Country they so valiently defend.

I see your points and I agree. I think Bush first made this policy to prevent the blood sucking media from smearing it in our faces. I know several of you are Obama supporters and when he does something constructive, please let someone know because we might miss it. Obviously besides honoring Stevie Wonder, we all know that it was about time for that. :smt102 :smt100

The ban was done by Bush at the request of the families who were being assaulted by the liberal media hoping to get a hate comment as the bodies were returned.

The ban was put in place during Desert Storm, media will only be allowed, if the families allow it. Obama lifted it, but it will be up to the generals to how it is carried out. Obama lifted it because he felt like it should be up to the families as to how their fallen loved ones are honored.
