What is the cutoff line for snook. How far up north do they travel on the gulf side.

I think there was one seen in Wakulla Springs a few years back. I'm sure he was lost.

My buddy in Stuart, FL was telling me about this recently. They usually can't survive in water below 54 degrees.

There were many killed in Daytona this year evidenced by floating dead snook in canals. We had near record cold in Jan . A friend reported traveling down a canal in a canoe and fish all over the place . It is a shame!

Although there are rare cases (after a series of mild winters, unlike this one) when snook will venture north, the general cut-off line is around New Port Richey. A couple knowledgeable guides have told me resident fish are now established in the Crystal River area, tho.

Maybe global warming will move them on up our way!

There are TONS of snook in Homosassa Springs.

I had a vicious hookup that I lost near the boat last summer at the mouth of the St. Marks.
I saw the line on him and have been wondering ever since.

I have always heard that Homosassa Springs was about the cutoff too. Maybe we should present this to Al Gore and see if he can give us a reason why global warming is obviously not happening down here. Its 28 right now in Valdosta, frost everywhere.

Belly up snook can commonly be mistaken for dead snook too. When water temps get too cold they can often be seen just floating like theyre dead, but really its just that theyre on the verge of dieing. Some make it, and some dont. Thats part of the reason for a season. So people dont go around dip netting snook.
Caught a nice 26 incher this morning in Tampa along with over 2 dozen reds and 2 gator trout all with white bait.
