I know most of you know about the NFL players that went out to the Gulf on a really bad day to be on the water. One person was found holding onto the footer of the motor while on top of the upside down vessel a 21" Evergaldes center console. What bothers me most about this is the number of folks that did not assist in the search. I would like to think that if one of us had suffered some series of stupid decisions or even an accident, that a number of us would be doing everything we could to help find our fallen friend or friends. I know that the Coast Guard can cover a lot of territory when a vessel is forty miles offshore a lot better than a few of us could but still, I would like to think that we would try, under favorable conditions. I would not expect anyone out in less than favorable conditions except the coast guard, but you would think that an organization like the NFL would have put a lot of effort into looking for those fellows, and show its dedication for their players. However, to my knowledge they did not.

It was and is a very sad deal. I just can't understand how someone knowing the seas and weather were going to turn much worse would have gone out there. Especially in that small of a boat and going that far.

What I haven't figured out yet is how was the pro football player's boat only 21'? With that kinda money (even at the league minimum) would be balling.

I heard somewhere yesterday that the Rev. Sharpton was getting his relaxer all in a twist because the CG found the white guy.
I guess in this day and age, he and his kind (those profiting from social unrest) will work the race angle at anything.

Seems that I heard they faced 14' seas during the roughest (weather wise) part of their ordeal... not sure how easy it would be for 4 guys to all stay anchored to the boat in such conditions. Kind of wonder if they guy that lived was given the prime spot because he wasn't the biggest/strongest... and not saying that last comment out of disrespect, just wondering... sure more of the story will come out in days to come.

I read somewhere that the CG ha d a 42' vessel as part of the serach and they took her back to port due to the seas. It's pretty bad when the CG says it's too rough.

If I had the resouces, I'da rented every chopper the CG would let me fly into the search zone but in my situation, I'd have ta settle for going out with someone else and looking by boat

Funny that an NFL player was just on the news asking for planes and helicopters he could rent to help find those guys. Now were talking. Glad to see one of them has a caring bone in his body. And your right, stay with the boat, its a lot easier to find than a person floating around. If you can, keep one of those long streamers in your PFD too.

And I've already been pulled from the water once this year, no plans to do it again.

I don't think it was a matter of people not caring, I think the Coast Guard frowns on people interfering with the search. If they were going to be found, the CG would have found them soon after they found the boat and survivor. If the CG could not find them, I doubt someone renting boats and helo's would do much better. The guy who survived said the waves were steady pounding the boat, and the other guys just could not hold on. Bad situation, and I feel sorry for the families that have surely lost loved ones.

Its sad that such poor decision making had such horrible results but maybe it will serve as an eye opener for some
