Help a newbe out.

I bought a old boat with a 1989 Yahama 200hp Percision blend motor. The guy I bought it from knew nothing about boats he inherited it from his father in law. The motor really looks and runs great with the hose and ears hooked to it. Havent taken it out yet. I was told that the boat went in the shop a year 1/2 ago to replace everything that needs it and get the thing running great. Well his bill was $2600 for the tune up. Anyways This being a 2 stroke it has a little reserve oil tank on the motor and another oil tank in the floor of the boat. Does this mean I dont need to add oil to the gas? I guess thats why the motor is called (precision blend) Is anybody here familure with this motor? Thanks alot in advance for your help.

Read my post under "oil/gas mix". My Yamaha is also 200 hp. 2 cycle. I am going to replace tank to be sure I have oil problems at sea. I have been rebuilding and the forum has helped me a lot.
You may want to check some of my other post. Tin Can had a great answer for my oil tank question. I have learned to also to research other resources but the forum is more fun. :)

The motor is oil injected. Keep the oil tank in the floor of the boat full of oil. No need to put any oil in the gas tank.

However, if I'm not mistaken, a 1989 "Precision Blend" is a carbureted motor. If the motor has been sitting for 1.5 years I would suggest you take it to someone that can check it for proper operation. There is a small oik line going to each carburetor. If any of the oil lines are stopped up or restricted, the results won't be good.

I'm assuming this is a saltwater boat. If it is, I'm suspecting it's some sort of offshore boat. If it were me, especially with no written service record, I'd have it checked before I ventured out with it, anyway.

TC knows his stuff  BUT :-D if it was me, I'd chunk all of the oil injection stuff and premix on any motor that's outta warranty "just one tiny oil line stopped up and the motor is toast" :smt004

Ya can't do that on the EFI and DFI ,motors, Wevans. The computer won't allow it. If vaviper's motor is indeed carbed, he can do that.

Yea he said the boat had been sitting for 4 years when he aquired it from his father inlaw. He said he took it to a friend of his that works at a boat shop in Jacksonville and told him to redo everything that needs it so the boat would be reliable when he took out the kids. The guy gave him a bill for $2600. He is trying to locate the bill so I can see what all was done. He said he thinks he installed a new powerhead. Anyways he said times got hard soon after the boat was fixed and he has never taken it out. He had a fello go over the motor and clean the carbs and now she runs and starts great on the hose and ears. Should I do away with the oil injection? Can I do away with the oil injection? The gas tank in the boat was full of that old gas and had a leak. It was Aluminum. I just bought a new one and installed it today. Its a plastic one. The boat its self is a 1979 AQuasport 19-6 family fisherman. He had a small tank attached to the motor with fresh gas in it. He mixed the gas with the oil. I noticed the motor does smoke alittle. thats because the gas is mixed and the oil injection is putting oil in to.? I know to much oil can foul the plugs. So What do you think Should I do away with the oil injection? If so How would I do it? Also How do I mix the oil with the gas? Pour the oil in the gas tank first then ad the gas?

It sure is nice to be able to get GOOD advice from such a great bunch of people. Thanks in advance

Does the motor have an alarm that sounds when the oil injection stops working? I noticed it has a small reserve oil tank on the motor that has a switch on it that says in case of an emergency press here and you can keep cruising?. I dont mind mixing the oil with the gas expecially if the oil injection failure could be so costly! ;-)

We disconnected the tank and disabled the pump and alarm on my nephews 89 Evinrude, but we had a manual and we both have mechanical backgrounds :-D You could never do it without a manual and unless yer mechanically inclined, you would be best letting a pro do it for ya

Yamaha has a mechanical drive that operates the oil injection. It is the only company that has a set up like that. You can see the metal bar that works with the throttle to make sure you get just what you need. Dont mess with it Cuz! If you had a Mercury I would tell you to disconnect it because of their plastic parts. Them Japaneese engineers are smarter than us!
