Help with trolling motor problem...

I've got a minn-kota hand controlled bow mount trolling motor that I bought new about 4 years ago (12V). The last few times I have used the motor I have noticed that it seems to have lost some power. At first I assumed my deep cycle was going out, but that is not the case, bought a brand new one last month and that did not solve the problem. Had the new battery tested to be sure and it checked out fine.
The best way to describe the loss of power is that in years past speeds 2 and 3 would move the boat just fine unless there was a strong current or wind. Now I have to push the motor up to 4 to really get the boat moving and 5 if there is a decent wind. At 1-3 the motor is running, but it seems that the prop is just not spinning all that fast. This motor has really not been used all that much. I am just a weekend warrior.
Anyone had a similar problem? Any ideas or suggestions? I hope the electric motor is not going out on me...I really do not need the added expense of a new trolling motor.
