Econfina to Spring Warrior 3-13-09

One of the most important things about a fishing trip is to enjoy the anticipation of going. All week long I had been looking forward to heading to the coast Friday. Watching the weather and sea's forecast, hoping things with work stayed in check, and just thinking about a plan. If you take the time to enjoy these things, whether you catch fish or not, no one can take away the week you just enjoyed. With that said, Wednesday night a cold hits me
. It's O.K. I'll fight through this thing. Thursday morning I meet my brother at the Church at 7 AM to help get the smoker going for our annual wild game supper. This years guest speaker was Hank Parker. We had a huge crowd including celebrities like Cairo's own "Cairo Trout". Hank gave a great testimony and we had lots of great food.
Afterwards I head to the house to get a little rest. Get up at 5AM and my fishing buddy Jodie gets to the house about 6 and we head south. Unload at Econfina about 7:20 and enjoy a beauty of a ride out the river. On the flats in time to enjoy this

and this

Not long afterwards we have our first guest join us thanks to a soft jerkbait , just over 21".

We fish hard with only a bite here and there and I had what was either a nice trout or a decent red come unbuttoned before I could ID it. Jodie landed a short Flounder and I landed another slot trout. We move and move somemore. Water temps reading high sixty's by late morning.
While drifting the shallows the Sea Pro runs a ground. I tell Jody, I've always wanted to do some wade fishing so here we go. In just about five minutes I tie up with a nice trout and the battle is on. I get it in hand and she's so fat I can't get a grip on her as I lift my pig up and life is good. At least Jodie gets a look at her before she flips out of my hand and hits the water. I scramble to retrieve and she comes loose. I don't want to stretch it so I'll just say she was bigger than the one we already had in the box. I press own. A few minutes later I land, and hold onto this 20" red

Time to get back in the boat. We continue further east and what a beauty of a day to be on the water. I'm enjoying everthing about the day, the fishing, the catching, the wading, the boat riding, it was great. Water conditions are great and I say what the heck let's fide down to Spring Warrior.
We get there and it looks like a holiday, boats everywhere. We start picking up shorts right away. Jody lands another Flounder, this time a BIG ONE !
That would end our keepers for the day and we eventually head back to Econfina. Over 50 miles on the GPS today. Not a lot of keepers but it was great.
Nice way to spend my 20th year anniversary with my company and with about a month left before mine and DeeDee's wedding I'm not sure how much time I will have to go back to the coast. Till next time, Tight Lines !!!
