One More Cast's Fishing Report

Keaton Beach Fishing Report March 13, 14

Boy, the trout were on fire this weekend! especially for the North Florida Gulf Fishing Club who held their fourth annual Keaton March club event tournament at Keaton Beach Marina.

The top nine teams of 27 boats entered had over 11(eleven) pounds of trout for their legal ( one over 20" four under 20") five fish creel! That's impressive!

Here are the top three teams and their winning numbers:

#1 13.70 pounds for Tom and Jackson Keel with Sonny Blanton.
#2 13.65 pounds for Ashley Mock, Nicole Christmas and Jr. Dice.
#3 12.40 pounds for Robbie and Hunter Green and Warren Smith.

Those were some impressive numbers for an early March event especially following a week of sub-30 degree weather. Most all the boats caught their limit of trout and everyone had a blast fishing Keaton in March

Most of the fish over 20" were caught in waters less than two feet deep on a myriad of lures. Soft jerk baits took a bunch of fish as did hard jerkbaits. Assassin five inch shads and Berkley jerkshads took their share as did Bite-A-Bait fighters, Cordell Redfins and similar hard lures.

The incoming tide was the "bite" this weekend as short fish dominated the outgoing tide for most folks who were later to the party. MirrOlures #51MR and #52MR series were taking fish in 4-6 feet as did Assassin five inch shads.

Cal Beanblossom and Glenn Floyd of Sylvester, Ga had a limit of trout while fishing live shrimp, Assassin's sea shads and Gulp under Cajuns in 5 - 6 feet of water Saturday.

Dave Malone, of Cedar Isle, and Jimmy Edge of Lagrange, Ga fished with Edge's Shadee shads in electric chicken and several other colors to land a limit of fish in 2- 3 feet Monday. Dave said they fished the falling tide for their limit.

Plenty of reds were also landed by the NFGF club and others as they swarmed folks fishing shallow near the bars.

Look for the fishing to improve this weekend as the warmer weather this week turns the fish on. Look out if the sky goes overcast as I will slay them on plugs!
