Launched at the fort and ran east. Got set up for the rising tide. Caught a 26" red on topwater soon after the water started moving. Saw several more reds during the day, but no takers. They were very spooky.
Sunday, 3/15/09
Launched at Econfina and headed to a somewhat offshore bar that has produced reds in the past. Made the run in the fog. It was messy. Did I mention it was also very windy? With the boat drifting at 2.2 mph, this was impossible to fish. Moved in with the tide. Caught 2 decent slot trout on topwater. No reds. Moved to spot 2. No reds. Moved to spot 3. No reds. Moved to spot 4 and immediately started catching short trout on soft jerk baits. Switched to topwater. Caught 9 trout between 22" and 26". No reds. The fog finally lifted about 5:00 P.M., but the wind never laid. Never saw a red all day.
