Aucilla - 3/14/09 - Fishing with Bad Behaviour

I had the opportunity to fish with Bad Behavior on Saturday out of the Aucilla. We were the third boat to launch and made our way out the river as the sun was coming up. We headed East and went in to 2’ of water over broken bottom and started chunking. I was throwing a Super Spook and BB was alternating between soft jerkbaits and a skitterwalk. We both had some decent hits on the first drift down the line, but we decided to move into a cove protected from the wind and found a nice school of redfish with some good trout mixed in. BB caught a nice 22.5” trout on topwater and I followed suit with a couple reds and nice trout.
Around lunchtime the tide had come in all the way and so we made a move to the East to fish one of my redfish spots. The fish were up on the grass line, but they were hungry and were slamming the spook. We picked up a handful of fish at 23-4” and one over slot red on the spook.
At 2 pm BB and I made a run back to a creek closer to the river and fished in and around it. BB had the hot hand and picked up a few pup reds on the jerkshad. At the end of the day we had a solid limit of trout and had two nice reds in the box.
All of our fish were caught in less than 2’ of water over rocky / broken bottom on topwater walking plugs. The water temperature was 65 at 7:30 and was 71 when we left at 3:15. The wind was blowing pretty good most of the day and we found most of our fish in areas that were protected from the wind.
BB, enjoyed it bud…hope we get to do it again soon.
