Tallahassee, FL (WTXL)--Its one thing to have a sale, but for a major boating shop it is their last. Employees at Boaters World rolled out sales posters only to find out they're losing their jobs. Here's ABC 27's Abbey Phillips with more.
Boaters World employee Christopher Powell knew they were going to have a sale just not a going out of business sale.
"Oh yeah we were, it just kind of happened one day one of our managers told us that we were filling for chapter 11, and sure enough two weeks later we, have this going on right now," said Christopher Powell, Boaters World employee.
All 130 stores nationwide are closing their doors for good. Now they have 90 days to sell all their merchandise.
"It's frustrating to see a good business, a good store like this, at least here, I can vouch for our store, that good people, good group of guys who've been good to their customers and everything, and it's just upsetting to see that now they have to take their business somewhere else," said Powell.
"Well there's no where else around here really to go, but you know, probably something like Bass Pro shops I guess, something along those lines," said Spencer Atkinson, shopper.
And it's not the only local store going under.
Marilyn says she and eight co-workers drove down from Thomasville Saturday to advertise the close-out specials.
Now, Powell and hundreds of other Boaters World employees are in the same boat.
"Just get in the race with everyone else trying to find another job, I mean, I'm going to try maybe another store or something, but just pretty much anything that's available," said Powell.
Boaters World is owned by parent company Ritz Camera Centers. Ritz filed for bankruptcy back on February 22nd.
