Ok guys I have a old 19' 6" Aquasport cuddy cabin. It is a 1980 and it has a 1989 200hp yammy. The boat is solid as a rock and the motor is old but has been redone and runs like a top. Starts up like a new one. I had a mechanic go over it and all is good. My Question is how far would you guys trust taking a boat like this out offshore? We had a Very small boat last year that we took out 12miles a couple of times the water was very calm and weather report was all clear. I worried the whole time I was out there about the motor not starting. I want to get out there alittle deep but not too far. It has all the safety equipment GPS,Radio ect..................

Sea Tow membership might be a good idea.

Personally, I wouldn't go much more than 10 miles out and only with a very good weather report. I am ultra conservative in pushing my boat's limits. It can get rough and rough quick. Sea Tow is good but if the water turns angry and the motor will not start they will not be there in five minutes. Don't risk your and your fellow fisherman's safety for a few fish. Fish closer, save some gas and have a good time.

Take a buddy boat with you. Learn from the mistakes of others taking a small single engine boat too far offshore. 12 miles is one thing but 15 plus is a LONG swim back!

I have been moving ahead with my '89 Aquasport CC rebuild. Also has a 200 Yam rebuild. I plan to go slow but hope to eventually bottom fish on live bottom. I am getting an education with lots of research and DIY sweat equity. I ran it in a local lake yesterday equipped with only battery, oil, gas, and ignition switch. This week I plan to add switches, guages, and new wiring with help from a professional. Vaviper, check my other post for somethings that might be of interest. Post a picture. Check your PM. FPR, get that #*%! bug off of here. It's aggravating as the real thing. Oh! And what they said!
