I have one. Great for cobia and kings. Has a "baitrunner" feature that lets you put it in controlled freespool. Kind of like a clicker for a baitcaster.

I personally would not use it for snapper for the fact that if a grouper grabs it, you could strip the gears pretty quick. The gears inside are not made for fighting fish against locked drag.

How about one of the bigger baitrunners or a big ole Penn? Ive caught grouper/snapper on both.

If there is a hog around though, you stand a good chance of getting worked-over using any spinning reel with your bait on the bottom.

The baitrunner I have works great. I'm not sure it would be my first choice for grouper or big snapper. If you are primarily bottom fishing I would suggest you look at open face reals. You can get away with a smaller real and gain more drag and cranking power to get those fish off the bottom. Spinning reals typically are not designed to perform like a winch. The beauty of the baitrunner is that you can put it in the rodholder with a bait out behind the boat in free spool while you are bottom fishing with another rod.

Is there a reason you must use a spinning reel for bottom fishing?
