Haven't been on the site in awhile, I got engaged and bought a house, so I've had no shortage of things to do......

But, I'm getting back into spring fishing mode and was thinking about experimenting with some braid on my spinning rods this season. Couple questions: When throwing lures, spoons, ext, do you tie directly to the braid or do you use a flouro or mono leader....if you do use a leader, what kind of knot do you tie to connect braid to leader? What kind of knot do you tie with braid to lure or CT? What kind of braid do you recommend? thanks for any answers.

I know a lot of people use the uni-knot to uni-knot. I tied 10 # power pro to 20# Seaguar flourocarbon. Most of mine eventually failed. That may be that my knot tieing is not up to par. Be sure to wet the knot when you are tieing flouro. That said, I had the best luck using spro swivels to tie my leaders to braid. They are the really small and work well. I think I used the size 10 barrel swivel. I've never had one fail.

On another note. I stopped using braid on my spinning outfits because of the wind knots. I love it on my baitcasters though. I picked up a salty carrot stix and a curado 200E7 yesterday and loaded it with 10# PP braid. Can't wait to try it out.

Also what kind of reels do you have because some are more braid friendly than others.

I always tie line to line...Fish can see swivels and things like mackerel will attack them..Uni to Uni or a surgeons knot for me, usually with 20 lb. Flouro..I will use a swivel ON the spoon if I am using a spoon. If you're going to use braid, I would suggest a good reel to avoid wind knots...Stradic is what I have been using for a long time..Something that also helps with wind knots is to always close your bail manually..when you don't, you create a 1/4 turn in your line, that after about 20 casts will create wind knots..One more thing..don't forget a small amount of mono backing or tape on your reel spool to prevent the line from slipping! I use Penn slammers which, I believe, are designed for braid. I will not use swivels to connect line either, I know the albright knot and have had success with it in mono to wire connections, so I'll try that or the uni to uni. Thanks for the tips, anything else is appreciated

I like the albright because the braid wraps around the flouro or leader and is less likely to cut through on a good strike.

so suber, you wrap the braid around the fluoro....I was thinking the fluoro wrapping the braid would make more sense....someone tell me why I'm wrong

The braid is slippery so you need more friction from the wraps of the braid to hold onto the fluoro.

I also us the Uni to Uni knot and have never had it fail. I have pulled some big fish in on it too. 20# braid with 20# mono.

I use the surgeons knot and if I tie it prior to being on the water I add a small drop of superglue to the knot, Have not ever had one fail yet.
